GARDINER, BORIS: Every Nigger Is A Star CD $17.99
Jazzman Records presents an exact repress of Boris Gardiner's legendary Every Nigger Is A Star, the long-lost soundtrack to a near-mythical Jamaican film. Long a Holy Grail-status LP for reggae and funk aficionados alike, Gardiner's original soundtrack for Calvin Lockhart's mysterious movie has eluded any official or unofficial re-release since 1974. Presented in its original format and with its original cover art, Every Nigger Is A Star is a dose of the finest conscious Jamaican music, generously laced with blaxploitation-style heavy funk. The Boris Gardiner Happening present a deep, cross-genre constellation of sounds that spans sweet reggae to soul balladry, and stretches from the magical Carib-funk-jazz of "Negril," through the gold-standard funk classic "Ghetto Funk," to the deep acoustic cut of the title track. An essential release for fans of funk, blaxploitation OSTs and reggae, the CD release also comes equipped with detailed historical notes which finally clear up the mystery of the original film. Another "Deadly Sting" from Jazzman Records.

PLASTIKMAN: Kompilation CD $13.99
Plastikman is the alter ego of one of the world's most revered electronic DJs and producers, Richie Hawtin. Born in Banbury, Oxfordshire in England, his family moved to Windsor, Ontario when he was nine. The proximity to Detroit meant regular trips across the bridge to the Motor City where he was influenced by the first wave of techno greats, and it was almost inevitable that he would begin experimenting with music-making himself. Between 1993 and 2003, the Plastikman persona, born from the mood and state of mind in late night warehouse parties in Detroit, manifested himself in six albums ranging in style from hypnotic and acidic to brooding and introspective, but always with the common thread of a minimalistic 303, stripped down to a unique brand of techno. Live shows were few and far between, having been reserved for special events like Glastonbury 1995 and Mutek 2004. Now in 2010, Plastikman has re-emerged to perform a 15-city tour, reinterpreting the original Plastikman material using today's technologies, and creating a fully immersive concert experience using synchronized audio, visuals, and communication technology. Kompilation is the next chapter in the Plastikman story; a limited edition CD containing tracks from 1993's "Helikopter" through 2003's "Ask Yourself." Presented in new packaging with the trademark Plastikman logo, it works as a collector's item just as well as an introduction to the full Plastikman discography and reflects the running order of the 2010 Plastikman Live show.

CARTER, CHRIS: The Spaces Between LP $16.99
Originally recorded between 1974 and 1978 at Industrial Records studio in London, The Space Between was first released as a 90-minute cassette in 1980 on Throbbing Gristle's Industrial Records label. It wasn't until 1991 that it was again released by Mute Records on CD. For those who may not know, Chris Carter is one of the founding members of Throbbing Gristle, partners with Cosey Fanni Tutti (knows as Carter-Tutti and formerly recording as Chris & Cosey) who has been working with sound for over 40 years. Although tracks from The Space Between have appeared on numerous compilations since its release, the album has never been available on vinyl -- until now. This new vinyl edition on Optimo Music, now retitled The Spaces Between, doesn't include all the tracks on the original album but has been enhanced and remastered from the original two-track master tapes and has new cover artwork especially for this release. JD Twitch has this to say about the release: "The original release featured fifteen tracks. As I wanted to have a reasonably loud vinyl pressing, I have picked my favorites to appear here (not an easy task to narrow it down). In addition, there is a bonus track 'Climbing' which was recorded around the same time that was released by Coil's Geoff Ruston on his Men With Deadly Dreams cassette in 1981. One of the first-ever recordings to use an 808 drum machine, it still sounds as if it is from tomorrow. In my opinion, these are some of the key recordings in the history of electronic music. They were made using very basic equipment at a time when there was no blueprint for what electronic music could and should be. There is a beauty, an emotion and an imagination present here that is lacking in a lot of modern machine music. This music is as vital and wondrous today as it was four decades ago." All tracks have been remastered by Chris Carter in 2009 for this release. Musically, it's an electronic soundtrack for a sleazy sci-fi movie, with moments of uplifting beauty combined with bits of claustrophobic mania. Amazing stuff.

LUCAS, TED: Ted Lucas CD $18.99
The music of Ted Lucas has circulated through CD-Rs and blogs for years now. Although primarily known for this, his 1975 self-titled album (sometimes referred to as The OM Record), a legacy of hundreds of tapes decisively reveal one of the psychedelic era's most criminally-overlooked talents. Lucas studied with Ravi Shankar. He was the "exotic instruments specialist" for Motown and played sitar on many of their most famous productions. He rubbed shoulders with Alice Cooper and Ted Nugent and every other major player on the Detroit scene. His pioneering early psych rock bands The Spike Drivers and Misty Wizards managed to become legends with nothing more than a handful of singles. Stanley Mouse, prime image-maker for the Grateful Dead and friend of Ted, adapted the cover for Ted Lucas from his artwork for Jimi Hendrix's unfinished last album. It's the first appearance of the space scarab -- the UFO that would later become Journey's symbol. From brief, spontaneous ditties, predating the lo-fi indie movement by 20 years, to the epicly psychedelic sitar guitar ragas in Lucas' signature loose string tunings, Lucas never wavered from his visceral, intensely honest vision. A self-taught master of many instruments and consummate do-it-yourselfer, Ted created a home studio and worked out new ways to tune his guitars. The pride he took in his craft and his attention to detail were inspiring and exasperating to all who knew him. His wit was legendary. The reasons for Lucas' failure to break out of the Detroit scene would require, and probably deserve, a book-length investigation. His career provides insight on the difficulty of self-publishing and self-promotion in the pre-internet age. Without a doubt, things would have turned out very differently had he come up today. Lucas' voice is unspeakably mellow, his guitar unbelievably gentle, and his arrangements absolutely impeccable. Do not miss this album.

AUTRE NE VEUT: Autre Ne Veut LP $18.99
"Debut LP by ANV. Co-release with Upstairs CD-R -- the label run by Dan Lopatin (of Oneohtrix Point Never / Games). Mixed by Chris Coady at DNA Downtown, NYC." "Autre Ne Veut ('I want no other') was inscribed on the back of a gold and garnet hat ornament (ca. 1475) found at Hanley Castle in Worcestershire. It is rumored to be the gift of an English Duke to his French mistress, but this is simply conjecture." -- Metropolitan Museum of Art / The Cloisters, New York City "Olde English Spelling Bee is one of those labels you can implicitly trust to provide you with the most brilliantly weird music. Their latest missive is a self titled shocker from Autre Ne Veut, a moocher from the same circles as Oneohtrix Point Never and all those weirdo Brooklyn types with an uncanny line in subtly skewed pop queerness. Seriously, this is one of the strangest, most jarringly unique records of the year, and we love it. At heart it's an incredible pop album with traces of Prince, Prefab Sprout and Erasure at its core, but each melody and harmony is delivered with an off-key sleight of hand that really plays on your preconceptions and experience of classic synth pop. There's definite nods to the soundtracks of John Hughes movies and the like, but it's perhaps more like The Breakfast Club score remade by the Troma company for some secret pay-per-view internet channel. Autre Ne Veut has possibly made one of our favourite albums this year and we urge you to investigate without delay. Essential!" -- Boomkat

LEE, RITA: Build Up LP $16.99

WHITE STATIC DEMON: Apparitions CD $17.99
"Bleak analog electronics and voice from Justin K Broadrick. Apparitions is a dark, insalutary recording of sub bass throb, scathing frequencies and sheets of feedback unleashed with the ferocity of early power electronics sides. A material electric attack from places unknown. Photographs by Paul Lee. Edition of 500."

1ST TIME ON VINYL!! 2LP clear vinyl. Ltd to 750. On "Haunt Me" HECKER is often riding a fine line between ambient & noise. Electric Bunnies 7" Pretty Joanna on Sacred Bones $5.99
b/w “I Swear I'll Never Let You Go" Late last year, Florida's Dying dropped "Through The Magical Door" - a debut album hailed as the "S.F. Sorrow" of fuzzy sludge pop that topped just about everyone's "best of" lists. Though it may be awhile before we get another full-length, this single successfully captures both the noisy & saccharine sweet sides of the band. B-side is a downer-pop gem with 4 harmonies & all, A-side is opposite with a melody buried under layers of warm cascading fuzz & feedback.

Eluvium cd Leaves Eclipse The Light on Temporary $9.99
Features the stunning opening track from Similes, plus 2 brand new exclusive tracks. "LReeasviedse nEccelipse The Light" is a gorgeous, laconic piece of ambient pop. SOFT METALS "Cold World Melts" on Captured Tracks 12" $14.99
Here's the debut vinyl from the Portland duo SOFT METALS. Formed in 2009, the band have been playing a ton of shows on the West Coast and garnering new fans with every stop. Their music is tight, romantic, electronic pop with influences from a variety of dance and post-punk sub-genres. "If you're a fan of Glass Candy or The Chromatics, or just anything Johnny Jewel or Italians Do It Better produce/release, then step right up... Soft Metals come heavy with the Italo rhythms and sultry vocals, but aren't content to just keep things pulsating and dreamy. There's a heavy Industrial and Darkwave influence that gives each song a film of grime and debauchery. If you're into anything remotely dark, synthy and romantic, every single Soft Metals track thus far has been like aural cat nip. "-Mishka NYC. First 500 on White Wax.

WALKMEN "Lisbon" on Fat Possum CD $14.99
WALKMEN "Lisbon" on Fat Possum LP $17.99
Lisbon was recorded over the course of eight months beginning in the fall of 2009 with producer CHRIS ZANE (Passion Pit, Les Savy Fav, Tokyo Police Club). The band then traveled to Dallas to finish the album with producer JOHN CONGLETON (St. Vincent, Explosions in the Sky). Featuring the band's signature vintage instrument-sound, Lisbon will showcase "a lot of stuff that's Elvis-sounding, like early Elvis and Sun Records kind of sounds," says frontman HAMILTON LEITHAUSER.

BRUCE HAACK "Farad (The Electric Voice)" on Stones Throw DBL.LP $21.99
Up until now, the legacy of BRUCE HAACK (1931-1988) has only existed in the quirks, glitches, and audio signals of modern techno-luminaries such as Kraftwerk and Daft Punk, but unlike the aforementioned, Haack has been left completely unacknowledged. Yet with Stones Throw's release of Farad (The Electric Voice), the electronic music pioneer will be lifted out of the sooty fields of obscurity and rightfully placed into the spotlight of the Electronic music continuum. Farad (The Electric Voice) specifically focuses on tracks using the "Farad", the name Bruce gave to his vocoder, one of the first musical vocoders at the time, which he invented. It includes out of print and unreleased tracks accessed via negotiations with Haack's estate.

Boduf Songs lp This Alone Above All on kranky $15.99
...Else In Spite of Everything". 4th Boduf Songs extended player was created using Mathew Sweet's standard recording set up of a single microphone & a small array of instruments, but it comes with a few surprises - most notably the prominence of electric guitar, bass & stomping drums on a few tracks. All of the elements that make his previous sound creations so arresting are still present; the impeccable song structures, the minimal approach, the delicate yet dominant singing. Mathew broadens his vocal approach here, exploring range and employing some unpredictable, well-placed harmonies. "This Alone Above All Else In Spite Of Everything" is effectively a concept record, and makes for a dramatic journey.

Oval O cd on Thrill Jockey $16.99
1st new album in nearly a decade, a striking 70-track 2CD. MARKUS POPP is often credited as the creator of what was later dubbed the "glitch" or "clicks & cuts" style. Disc 1 features 20 relatively longer pieces that range from delicate, sophisticated pop to brutally torn, electro-acoustic riffing full of angular, colliding guitar sounds. Disc 2 features 50 concise, highly detailed pieces that are a conscious nod to the culture of instant gratification.

Oval O lp on Thrill Jockey $17.99
For the 2LP, the first 20 tracks from CD1 are spread out over Sides A-C, & Side D features 6 vinyl-only bonus tracks. Includes a coupon to download all songs on the vinyl, plus the 50 tracks from CD2

Prekop, Sam Old Punch Card Thrill Jockey $15.99 for the cd
$16.99 for the lp
A very different outing for PREKOP (THE SEA & CAKE), featuring songs made on modular synthesizer. No vocals, no guitars, no beats.Taking inspiration from early music concrete & electronic music, the BBC Radiophonic Workshop, Nuno Canavarro, Raymond Scott, David Behrman, & free improvisation, this is a beautifully noisy, jagged yet stately album of synthesizer music.

Yonkers, Michael lp Goodby Sunball on Secret Seven $16.99
First ever reissue of the lost psych-folk LP by cult favorite MICHAEL YONKERS. Privately released in 1974, "Goodby Sunball" was recorded at Yonkers' home studio a few years after "Microminiature Love" (reissue on Destijl is long OOP) and just before "Lovely Gold" (finally released earlier this year on Drag City/Galactic Zoo Disk). "The music for 'Goodby Sunball' was written during the recovery period following serious spine injury. The surgery had not gone well, I was laid up for months, & had to learn to walk again. So, the music was written using an acoustic guitar, while laying in bed. When I was able to be up & around more, I started recording the songs...a little at a time. It took about 7 months." - MICHAEL YONKERS

PALESTINE & SIMONE FORTI, CHARLEMAGNE: Illuminations LP $29.99
"Alga Marghen proudly presents the first ever release of Illuminatios, or Charlemagne Palestine and Simone Forti duo interactions, illuminated with dim red lights. In early 1970 Mort Subotnick asked Charlemagne Palestine to join his soon to be created Media Department at the new 'Dream School of the Future' endowed by the Disneys to be called the California Institute of the Arts. Charlemagne and Simone Forti met there in 1970, when La Monte Young asked them to arrange a California concert for Pandit Pran Nath. They decided to try an improvisation session together and Charlemagne invited Simone the first time to the electronic music studio where he worked regularly. Their medium blended as a play of interacting sound waves and solid matter in motion as Charlemagne and Simone shared energy and focus. The three previously unreleased recordings on this LP were made between October and December 1971. The first take, titled 'Illumination,' is for two voices moving in the space with small bells and crystal glasses while Simone Forti plays the molimo, a corrugated tube meant for connecting the gas stove. The second take titled, 'Wed Oct 13th 1971,' has Simone and Charlemagne in a song dialogue as animals do. It was also at Cal Arts that Charlemagne Palestine first encountered a Bosendorfer Imperial Piano of Vienna. He played it often as Simone danced during their 'Illuminations'. Take three is a song sang in falsetto while playing the Bosendorfer Imperial in an arpeggiated style that predates the 'strummings'. Listening to these 'three takes' 40 years later, they ooze a timeless, carefree mystical, magical, dreamy atmosphere that evoked the times of the late 60s to early 70s in Charlemagne and Simone part of the California Art Scene. 'Illuminations' were a unique open spontaneous form of performance, ritual and prayer. Edition limited to 365 copies with an essay by both Charlemagne Palestine and Simone Forti, as well as photos of the performances reproduced on the LP front sleeve."

OUTER SPACE: Outer Space LP $16.99
"John Elliott's Outer Space project is a laboratory for electronic investigation. Acting as a continuance of the studies of mid 20th century electronic music composers such as Nik Pascal and Laurie Spiegel, Elliott's music is deeply indebted to the inner workings of the electric signal. Acting almost as a meditation, through the simple gesture of translation Elliott's process begins to reveal itself as electricity is converted into acoustic pressure and potential; the melody of physics. The six recordings on the album are each a microcosmic view into Elliott's practice; a keystone, illuminating his solo practice as well as his work as a member of Emeralds. Composed and recorded over the past three years without the use of digital synthesizers and arpeggiation; a record closely connected to a personal path, attempting to make sense, to understand one's journey. Mastered by Keith Fullerton Whitman; pressed in an edition of 650 copies on clear vinyl with full color gloss covers and heavy stock printed euro-style inner sleeves."

SADE: The Safest Place (NYC Dance Remix) 12" $12.99
"The Sade dance remix is something of an institution in global house culture. From the lush underground styling of the Musk Men rendition of 'I Never Thought,' to Nick Holder's deep vocal masterpiece 'Removable Tattoo,' house producers have proven time and again the inherent compatibility of Sade's sublime, sultry, singularly unique vocals with 4-to-the-floor dance music. If deep house is to be taken in its truest form, there is really no major label R&B artist more fit for its specific aesthetic than she. With this latest entry into the cannon of Sade house tributes, 'The Safest Place,' it's safe to say that the tradition has been reaffirmed and returned to its rightful niche of respectful reinterpretation, capturing the melodic seduction of Ms. Sade's music and pairing her innate charm with a suitably emotive production that does justice to her transparent and always sincere poetic beauty. Retaining the basic flesh of the original composition, the 'NYC Dance Remix' remains true to the song while transforming it into a contemporary take on the NY vocal house sound: driving tribal percussion, effectively moody pads and perfectly-placed vocal samples that resonate with despondent urgency. Surely, 'The Safest Place' as presented in its revamped form will take its place in the lineage of R&B-house remixes worthy of an already impeccable artist. Limited clear vinyl pressing." One-sided release.

Zorn, John cd Filmworks XXIV on Tzadik $16.99
"The Nobel Prizewinner" Called in at the last minute to score this bizarre & fascinating black comedy out of the Netherlands, ZORN responded to the stark black & white cinematography by turning in this intimate & moody score for piano trio. Brilliantly performed by ROB BURGER, the fabulous pianist from ALHAMBRA LOVE SONGS, along with a dynamic rhythm section of TREVOR DUNN & KENNY WOLLESEN, they capture the mood beautifully, bringing a subtle depth to Zorn's lyrical & evocative compositions

VA: Offstrings: Inventions For Guitar LP $22.99
"Featuring new work from Chicago musicians: David Daniell (San Agustin, Rhys Chatham), Mark Shippy (U.S. Maple, Miracle Condition), Travis Bird & Daniel Burke (Illusion of Safety) and Michael Vallera (Cleared). Complacency announces the first in a series of album releases focusing on new work with guitar. The first of these presents five Chicago area guitarists. Some guitar players immerse themselves in their instrument's rich and varied traditions, while others exploit innovations of technique and technology to find new expressive possibilities. But regardless of whether they celebrate or subvert its iconic status, they're gilding an aura that makes it ripe for use and abuse as a Duchampian found object. The five guitarists on Offstrings come to the instrument from both sides of the altar. While they can play like virtuosos, recontextualize familiar sounds, or come up with new ones, they know that these are means, not ends. They wield all of the sound-producing and conceptual qualities inherent in the guitar to play the chords of human experience. They offer you a chance to listen." On colored vinyl.

EMMANUEL, JD: Wizards LP $23.99
"With so much being made of current practitioners of the kosmische/New Age vibe, here's your opportunity to hear an original. Copies from the original pressing rarely surface and even the 2007 repress (which sounded quite thin) commands quite a fee on internet auction sites. This straight analog pressing sounds as close to the original master tapes as you can get. 500 made. Pressed at RTI." "Wizards was my first deep trance electronic music album. This album was inspired by Terry Riley , one of the earliest people ever to compose and perform long, extended, cyclic pieces in the electronic format. This music was composed and performed in '81 and '82. I consider this album my best work. The instrumentation is three Sequencial Circuits PRO-1s, Crumar Traveler One and a Yamaha SK-20, all real time recording to a Teac 4-track reel-to-reel. I mixed the four tracks to a Teac A-7300 Master 2-Track tape recorder using a DeltaLab DL-2 to create the delay track. In 2006, I used a Tascam 34B 4-track to remaster all my master tapes to digital master of 196 KHz/24 bit .WAV files using Soundforge 8 software. The original Wizards LP was published in the Summer of 1982 with the black and white cover. The initial tracks had no names and were called 'Movements I-V.' Several years later sales had slowed down. In an effort to improve sales we tried the color cover and I created names for each track..." -- J.D. Emmanuel

BITCHIN BAJAS: Tones/Zones LP $19.99
"Bitchin Bajas is the solo project of Cave's Cooper Crane. Cooper's skillful use of melody within his elastic electronic tones is matched by his ability to mix it all (much like he does with Cave) so that there's a lot of sound but even more space and separation between the sounds. Tones/Zones was pressed in an edition of 500 copies. Through some sort of cosmic serendipity, Important is releasing Tones/Zones at the same time as J.D. Emmanuel's classic Wizards LP from 1981. There are some interesting parallels between Tones/Zones and Wizards. Both artists have a firm grasp of sound without wading too deeply into the blissful waters of new age melody. Both used an organ and a similar assortment of analog synths and both used the same Tascam reel-to-reel tape machine for their recordings. Though nearly 30 years separate, they're both generously offering you the opportunity to dive deeply into their own private tones & zones. Enjoy." On white vinyl.

SPERA, PIPPO: A Buen Puerto CD $16.99
"A summertime record, if ever there was one! Lilting melodies, including a shimmering cover of Eduardo Mateo's 'Mejor me voy,' infused with an undercurrent of bossa nova and the drowsy, faded memory of sun-drenched islands. All of this melodic loveliness is made ever-so-groovy in an Afro-Cuban sort of way thanks to a mighty contribution from world famous percussionist Jorge Trasante, Totem drummer Roberto Galletti, and Limonada drummer José Luis Sosa. Pippo Spera had come into the orbit of Uruguayan master Eduardo Mateo back during the days of El Kinto (one of that band's finest songs is about a visit by Mateo to Pippo's house). From 1967 to 1970, Pippo concentrated on studying classical guitar at the Conservatorio Nacional of Uruguay, until the military dictatorship closed the school. So, Pippo started his songwriter career, which culminated in 1975/1976 with the recording of A Buen Puerto. As Pippo says, 'It was a beautiful experience to me. I had the help of the best musicians in town, they were like brothers. At that time in Uruguay, nobody used to get money to perform in a recording studio; for the musicians it was a pleasure, it was just love of art...' After the release of this LP, Pippo decided to leave a Uruguay oppressed by a brutal dictatorship. He sailed to Brazil in a ship much like the one hovering behind him on the A Buen Puerto album. Brazil was indeed 'a good port' for Pippo -- he became friends with many of the best Brazilian musicians of those years: Milton Nascimento, Geraldo Azevedo, Renato Rocha, and Alceu Valença, and ended up writing for and playing on Nascimento's Clube da Esquina 2 album." Includes a 12-page booklet with archival photos and liner notes, plus 2 bonus tracks.

SUNBURNED WITH PAUL FLAHERTY: Unmuzzled Ox LP $23.99
"Full length, fully-realized LP recorded in 2007. Originally released by Ecstatic Peace on a long-gone cassette. Ultrazonked megafunk heavy. Big band. The eagle's nest. Front cover art by a tall guitar player. Assembled at home one-at-a-time style, recycled jackets, insert. Bagged." Limited, numbered edition of 200; paste-on covers; motivational insert written by Matt Krefting.

VA: Wave The Ocean, Wave The Sea LP $16.99
"People were saying that Southern folk song was dead, that the land that had produced American jazz, the blues, the spirituals, the mountain ballads and the work songs had gone sterile." -- Alan Lomax, 1960. "In 1959 and 1960, at the height of the Folk Revival, Alan Lomax undertook the first-ever stereo field recording trip through the American South to document its still thriving vernacular musical culture. He traveled through Virginia, Kentucky, Tennessee, Alabama, Mississippi, Arkansas, Georgia, and North Carolina, making over 70 hours of recordings. The trip came to be known as Lomax's 'Southern Journey,' and its recordings were first issued for the Atlantic and Prestige labels in the early '60s. Those, however, as well as subsequent releases on New World and Rounder Records, are now all out of print. To remedy this, and to celebrate the Southern Journey's 50th anniversary, Mississippi Records and the Alan Lomax Collection have collaborated on five commemorative LPs, spanning the breadth of Lomax's '59-60 Southern recordings, drawing on new transfers of the original 1/4" tapes, and featuring a considerable amount of previously unreleased material. The five LP volumes feature singing siblings Hobart Smith and Texas Gladden from Saltville, Virginia; menhaden fishermen's chorus the Bright Light Quartet; the Young Brothers' Mississippi Hill Country fife and drum band; Blue Ridge instrumentalists Wade Ward and Charlie Higgins; Bessie Jones and the Georgia Sea Island Singers; work songs and hollers from Parchman Farm; congregational hymns from African American and white Appalachian meeting-houses; Alabama's singing washerwoman Vera Ward Hall; the 1959 United Sacred Harp Convention; and the debut recordings of bluesman Fred McDowell, among much else. Each volume is being sold separately with its own distinctive packaging. All come with a 12-page booklet featuring many never before published photos. Old school tip on sleeves & beautiful sound. Not to be missed!"

VA: Worried Now, Won't Be Worried Long LP $16.99
Second installment in the Field Recordings From Alan Lomax's "Southern Journey", 1959-1960 series, featuring recordings from blues singer Sidney Carter, seventy year-old Norman Edmonds, Rosa Lee (or Rosalie) Hill performing on Fred McDowell's porch, two Mississippi gospel groups, the United Sacred Harp Convention in 1959 Alabama, the first-ever recordings of the fife and drum music of the Mississippi Hill Country and The Bright Light Quartet, a group of fishermen recorded in Virginia in 1960.

VA: I'll Meet You On That Other Shore LP $16.99
Third installment in the Field Recordings From Alan Lomax's "Southern Journey", 1959-1960 series, featuring recordings from Fred McDowell, Carlos "Bookmiller" Shannon's rendition of "The Eighth of January" (another variation of which -- "The Battle Of New Orleans" -- was a Billboard charting hit by Johnny Horton in 1959), a medley of classic African American spirituals by Virginia's Union Choir of the Church of God and Saints of Christ, lined hymns from Kentucky's George Spangler and a Baptist Church congregation, Ozark balladeer Neal Morris, work songs from Mississippi State Penitentiary, a previously unissued version of "Moses Was A Servant Of The Lord" performed by Charles Barnett (vocal and washtub) and Arkansas' Almeda "Granny" Riddle performing "Rainbow Mid Life's Willows," based on a British broadsheet originally published in 1631.

VA: I'll Be So Glad When The Sun Goes Down LP $16.99
Fourth installment in the Field Recordings From Alan Lomax's "Southern Journey", 1959-1960 series, featuring recordings from Blue Ridge instrumentalist Wade Ward performing alongside an eighty-one year old Charlie Higgins, sought-after Mississippi church singers James Short and Viola James, more from Fred McDowell ("Woke Up This Morning"), a locally composed religious piece written from words spoken by Mountain View, Arkansas resident Joseph Looney while on his deathbed, Hillsville, Virginia's The Mountain Ramblers, spiritual singers from the Georgia Sea Island of St. Simons and banjo master Hobart Smith's "Banging Breakdown."

VA: I'm Gonna Live Anyhow Until I Die LP $16.99
Fifth installment in the Field Recordings From Alan Lomax's "Southern Journey", 1959-1960 series, featuring recordings from North Carolina's Mountaineers, migratory labor songs from fishermen The Bright Light Quartet, a stark religious meditation on the end of days from Virginia service station owner E.C. Ball, Bessie Jones (later a touring performer) singing the spiritual "Daniel In The Lion's Den," an evening worship service at a Pentecostal Temple in Memphis, Emma Hammond's dance tune "Shout Lula," an excerpt from Alabama religious radio testimony and music performed on caned panpipes (or quills) at a country picnic in Senatobia, Mississippi.

BANQUE ALLEMANDE: Eins, Zwei LP $16.99
"Banque Allemande has a relentlessness that reminds me of the Gordons and Rema Rema, the thuggish charm of Feedtime, and some 1-2-3-4 yucks of 'I dunno, name some late '70s Euro punk out' -- but that's me hearing them. Their background is in the bands Discounter, Trumpf As, and Moser Indian. Their ears are atuned to the hammering beats of Boys Noize. Or as they describe their sound: minimalistic, cut-down songstructures -- yes please. Rough sounds, straight beats -- yes please.. If what comes out is called 'punk' -- whatthefuck."

east family band - parrallel world lp $24.99
LP version. Originally released in 1976 by Nippon Columbia, now digitally remastered, this is the final album by legendary Japanese space/psych-rockers Far East Family Band. Unlike other albums where the band focused on Pink Floyd-esque psych ballads, on Parallel World, the influence of German producer/electronic music composer Klaus Schulze is more pronounced, merging prog rock with electronic music to create something rather weird and wonderful. Although Schulze oversaw the production of the album rather than playing on it (which he definitely didn't!), the synth star here is Masanori Takahashi who was later to find new age fame and fortune under the name of Kitaro. This is space rock at its finest and the band's extended compositions attracted favorable comparisons with both Tangerine Dream and Pink Floyd, and even at times the vocal style of the Moody Blues. Unfortunately, this was the band's last album, but they went out on a high, achieving the rare feat of appealing to devotees of both Krautrock and electronic psychedelia alike.

LES RALLIZES DENUDES Blind Baby Has It's Mothers Eyes lp $24.99
LP version. Legendary Japanese rock outfit Les Rallizes Denudés were formed in 1967 and incredibly, for a group that had only one official release (Oz Days Live, a double vinyl compilation release in 1973), played their last gig almost 30 years later in October 1996. The band's name apparently means "fucked up and naked," which more than adequately describes their music. Formed by band leader Mizutani Takashi, the music remained remarkably familiar over the years, and is best described as high volume, raw, lo-fi, repetitive, feedback-drenched guitar-noise fests with nods in the direction of The Velvet Underground and Blues Creation, but without the electronics. Radical left-wing politics were never far from the band's agenda, with one original band member (Wakabayashi) being involved in the Japanese Red Army's hijacking of a flight to North Korea. Consequently, the group's live appearances became less frequent and increasingly clandestine. All the band's albums were released in very small quantities, and because of the group's reputation for secrecy and violence, as well as the difficulty in tracking down their recordings, Les Rallizes Denudés has assumed almost mythical status. Blind Baby Has It's Mothers Eyes sits at #11 on Julian Cope's list of top Japanese albums.

LES RALLIZES DENUDES
Heavier Than A Death In The Family doulbe lp $35.99
2LP version. Phoenix Records releases the oft-bootlegged Heavier Than A Death In The Family by legendary Japanese rock/psychedelic noise band Les Rallizes Denudés. This "album" is in fact, a blistering assemblage of live performances (all recorded in 1977, except for "People Can Choose," which was recorded in 1973) which sits at an esteemed #3 position on Julian Cope's Japrocksampler top 50 list. Reverb so heavy, it will split your frontal lobe in two.

Featuring former members of DON CABALLERO & ATOMBOMBPOCKETKNIFE, with appearances from PALL JENKINS (THE BLACK HEART PROCESSION), BRIAN CASE (DISAPPEARS, PONYS), MIA CLARKE (ELECTRELANE) & others, this 70 minute unthinkable Baudelaire-inspired drama unfolds with a dark swagger. Every track was completed as a chapter in an overarching tale of lives falling apart, then reconstruction, then reflection, & finally a vow to move forward. With bass guitar as the lead instrument, The Poison Arrows don't skimp on the additional details - their signature bass playing is more inspiring than ever. Drums are nothing short of thunderous & keyboards are at their most abstract.

Dear, Matthew cd Black City on Ghostly $12.99
STREET DATE 8/17. Matthew Dear's "Black City" can't be found on any map. It's an imaginary metropolis pIneoteprlenda tbioy ndaelsperate cases, lovelorn souls, & amoral motives. Matthew Dear, the musician, may live in New York City, but the Matthew Dear of "Black City" inhabits a sound-world unlike any other: a monument to the shadowy side of urban life that bumps & creaks, shudders & wakes up screaming in the middle of the night. Cavernous atmospherics envelop the listener, and strange distortions crackle on the horizon. In "Black City", nothing is at it seems, yet for all of it's foreboding moods, the albums sweeter moments illustrate Matthew Dear?s growing maturity as a songwriter.

MV & EE: Liberty Rose LP $18.99
"The brand new LP by contemporary psychic blues visionaries MV & EE. The duo spent 40 days and 40 nights under the twisted trees and endless sky of the Mojave desert via a Vermont homestead, freedom and unity. That's where these songs were unformed in dreams, floating off to mingle with the collective unconscious of coyotes and rattlesnakes, before they were re-birthed as smoke signals channeled through shaky hands, an old tele, germanium transistors and a bucket brigade. We at Arbitrary Signs feel that this is the purest distillation of the MV & EE 'S P E C T R A S O U N D' to date. Embedded within the grooves of this record are 6 streams to dip into as respite from the punishing rays of the hot summer sun."

HANCOCK, HERBIE: The Prisoner LP $13.99
Exact repro reissue, originally released in 1969. "As one of the first albums Herbie Hancock recorded after departing Miles Davis' quintet in 1968, as well as his final album for Blue Note, The Prisoner is one of Hancock's most ambitious efforts. Assembling a nonet that features Joe Henderson (tenor sax, alto flute), Johnny Coles (flugelhorn), Garnett Brown (trombone), Buster Williams (bass), and Albert 'Tootie' Heath (drums), he has created his grandest work since My Point of View. Unlike that effort, The Prisoner has a specific concept -- it's a tribute to Dr. Martin Luther King, evoking his spirit and dreams through spacious, exploratory post-bop." -- All Music Guide

NILSEN & STILLUPPSTEYPA, BJ: Space Finale 2LP $26.99
The follow-up to BJ Nilsen & Stilluppsteypa's well-received Man From Deep River (DEMEGO 007CD), Space Finale is another surreal slice of heavy listening from these legendary north Europeans. The material included here was realized on analog equipment, with a Revox 2-Channel tape machine as their main instrument. Maintaining the analog spirit of the audio, this release is now available as a double LP vinyl set, after being previously released as a C90 cassette. The tracks presented here are long-form excursions into intense slabs of atmospheric disturbance, melancholic fog and chattering melodies, incorporating their legendary field recordings. Packaged with some suitably cool images by Franz Graf. Cut at Dubplates & Mastering, Berlin, and limited to 500 copies only.

Also exclusive to this set is a sixth LP, Haunt Invocation (Apadno), which is a remixed version of Faust (2000) and A Special Plan (2000). ANTONY/FENNESZ: Returnal 7" $9.99
Hot on the heels of the acclaimed Oneohtrix Point Never Returnal album come these fabulous versions of the title track. Antony swings the mood and strips the track of its delayed harmonized vocals and creates a poignant ballad with OPN's Daniel Lopatin on piano. Fennesz, on the other hand, sprinkles some of his world-famous majestic stardust over the proceedings. All packaged in dazzling artwork by Stephen O'Malley.

FAILING LIGHTS: Failing Lights CD $14.99
"An evocative work of bleak electronic atmosphere and suffocating dread, Failing Lights is the intensely personal vision of Michigan (via Lexington, KY) artist Mike Connelly. While he has toured the world as 1/3 of legendary industrial/noise units Hair Police and Wolf Eyes, Connelly spends his days crafting a much different sound on his own. Under the Failing Lights flag, he has self-published a nearly uncountable number of cassettes and CD-Rs of rough drones, detuned improvised grit and unstable acoustics in tiny editions that quickly vanish into collector-land. Intransitive is proud to present the defining -- and first widely available -- Failing Lights statement, an album of sinewy horror with a fine-tuned beauty within its darkness. A single piece in five sections, failing lights begins with disquietingly barren negative space. As the album creeps forward, it steadily dispenses sheets of diffuse throat-scratch and skittering strings, culminating in a blast of molten organ. Not noise, ambient, improv, black metal, or anything else: this is Failing Lights."

SMOKE, THE: The Smoke CD $17.99
This legendary popsike suite was the brainchild of pop prodigy Michael Lloyd, a founding member of The West Coast Pop Art Experimental Band. Recorded in Hollywood over several months, it consists of melodic and imaginative psychedelic-tinged pop, with clear Beatles and Beach Boys influences. Poor marketing ensured low sales on its original release in April 1968, but its reputation has never ceased to grow since. Package contains historic liner notes.

SOUNDCARRIERS, THE: Celeste CD $16.99
This is the second album by Nottingham's The Soundcarriers. 2009's Harmonium (MELO 059CD/LP) found a lush and spiked musical template; music so inspired and languid, one's thoughts were drawn to Broadcast and Stereolab and like-minded cosmic travellers. Exactly where The Soundcarriers were really "coming from" was long in debate: Nottingham? The West Coast? Saturn? The sound moves between all three locales. It doesn't really matter where you land, the atmosphere is always perfect. In Celeste, we find a tighter, more focused group. The same authentic analog warmth pervades, but with the addition of new sounds, playful blips and bleeps suggesting an extended musical canvas. The influence of jazz and Kosmiche music becomes apparent, as the muscular "Last Broadcast" floats from the turntable. What a groove! The bass work of Can's Holger Czukay is instantly brought to mind, but soon we find ourselves in unexplored space-rock terrain. A denser sound pervades, that feels far removed from the lysergic whoosh of Harmonium. Any thoughts of a tighter sound are mischievously dashed with the arrival of "Rolling On" -- a spirited, bouncy shuffle so infectious, one is moved to remove all footwear and dance vigorously. The song provides familiar Soundcarriers' warmth, blessed with vocal harmonies that echo the magic of Trish Keenan or even Karen Carpenter. Was it not the popular music press who once invented the thorny term "retro-futurism?" The Soundcarriers aren't retro or futurist. Where they succeed is in tight ensemble playing that really swings. A spirited quartet for the future certainly, but one that holds true to tried-and-trusted lessons from the best phases of music history.

SCHNITZLER, CONRAD: Zug LP $16.99
Conrad Schnitzler's Zug is one of the most important and one of the first electronic minimalist works that was published in the 1970s. Almost simultaneously with Kraftwerk's groundbreaking Autobahn, "Zug" appeared on the legendary The Red Cassette (1973). The Wire magazine wrote about Zug: "Kraftwerk might have used similar methods to create rhythm but three decades on, it still sounds like the future." As an original member of Tangerine Dream (1969-1970) and a founding member of Kluster, Conrad Schnitzler is a creator of milestones in the history of electronic popular music. This release is rounded off with remixes by Con (1978) fan Stefan Betke aka Pole and Borngräber & Strüver. Pole and Kassian Troyer (Radian) have mastered the record, so the best quality is guaranteed.

PARSONS, GRAM: G.P. LP $14.99
180 gram exact repro reissue of Gram Parsons' first solo album, originally released in 1973. Manufactured by Rhino. "...probably the best realized expression of his musical personality. Working with a crack band of L.A. and Nashville's finest (including James Burton on guitar, Ronnie Tutt on drums, Byron Berline on fiddle, and Glen D. Hardin on piano), he drew from them a sound that merged breezy confidence with deeply felt Southern soul, and he in turn pulled off some of his most subtle and finely detailed vocal performances; 'She' and 'A Song for You,' in particular, are masterful examples of passion finding balance with understatement. Parsons also discovered that rare artist with whom he can be said to have genuinely collaborated (rather than played beside), Emmylou Harris; Gram and Harris' spot-on harmonies and exchanged verses on 'We'll Sweep out the Ashes in the Morning' and 'That's All It Took' are achingly beautiful and instantly established her as one country music's most gifted vocalists. On G.P., Parsons' ambitious vision encompassed hard-country weepers, wistful ballads, up-tempo dance tunes, and even horn-driven rhythm and blues." -- All Music Guide

PARSONS, GRAM: Grievous Angel LP $14.99
180 gram vinyl exact repro reissue, manufactured by Rhino. Originally released in 1974. His final album before his death, featuring the haunting closer "In My Hour Of Darkness" with Emmylou Harris.

KONER, THOMAS: Nunatak, Teimo, Permafrost 3CD $25.99
Following on from three limited vinyl editions, Type now proudly presents a triple CD package including the first three, long-unavailable and newly-mastered albums from influential drone soundscapist, Thomas Köner. Since the release of these three albums in the early '90s, Köner has gone on to enjoy something akin to a cult status among musicians of all dispositions. His CV boasts not only a series of seminal albums under his own name but also membership of acclaimed Chain Reaction duo Porter Ricks and, more recently, a number of works that have seen him occupy a respected position in the installation and sound art worlds. Through the careful and measured use of gongs (recorded in different rooms and underwater) as well as homemade wind instruments, Köner's early work would become a cornerstone of the genre and part of a triptych of records which really have never been bettered. After far too many years in the out-of-print wilderness, it's a source of immense satisfaction to finally be able to share this incredibly dark, immersive music with the world once again. Housed in a triple panel digifile package.

Beach Fossils S/ T cd on Captured Tracks $16.99
The jangly, self recorded ramblings of Brooklyn's Dustin Payseur. Hauntingly catchy tunes that blend the energy of an impulsive road trip w/ the melodious wandering of a lucid dream. Sun drenched riffs, kaleidoscopic rhythms & hazy lyrics saturate this debut album

Galbraith, Alastair lp Mass on Siltbreeze $18.99
While Morse followed traditional avenues of rugged folk narrative tinged w/ psychedelic foxing, Mass is an unchartered, one-way trip through a world of ritual. Broken guitars, percussive loops, backwards tracking, a (home-made) glass harmonium, lullabies, bagpipe thievery & the odd bit of fighting talk are just some of the many bricks laid here

Gate lp Republic of Sadness on Ba Da Bing! $17.99
Comprises the apex of Michael Morley's (DEAD C) various interests in one collection. His guitar & vocal drones permeate through looped beats & sounds, arriving at a sound that is not quite dance, not quite noise, not quite electronica & never, ever ambient

RADIO PEOPLE: Radio People LP $18.99
LP release; limited to 500 copies only. Radio People is a project from Ohio-stalwart Sam Goldberg. After a handful of solo releases under his own name on Weird Forest, 905 Tapes and the Emeralds-run Wagon & Gneiss Things labels, he debuted Radio People on an ultra-limited self-titled cassette on his own Pizza Night imprint. At that point, there was no way back and the only move was to push forward with this cosmic beast. Two more short-run tapes followed and it was clear that this new chemically-imbalanced synthesizer project wasn't just a quick hit one-off. Radio People is here to stay. On this, his debut vinyl effort, Goldberg has compiled the best elements of those three, long-gone cassettes. This Dubplates & Mastering-cut slab of wax is the strongest statement Goldberg has made, proving his talent lies far beyond ambient soundscapes and well into the world of pop-infused synthesizer chaos and Kraut-inspired composition. Major hooks sit alongside dense planetary drones. Goldberg pairs rivers of polysynth tracery with deep shards of droning organs, minimal live percussion and a whole host of drum machine backbone. This really is the best of both worlds. Melodies suck you in, beats get your head bobbing and then you're sucked down a complex tonal wormhole of introspective loops and ambient synthscapes. Pop song frameworks nestle themselves neatly beside somber soundscapes, sometimes jumping back and forth in the same track. Barely-there vocals foil the stasis, leaving the listener guessing and wondering if there's a ghost in the mix. Radio People's embracing of simple Kraut rhythms to underscore the catchy, kosmische wanderings give this music an accessibility not present in much of Goldberg's previous work. It crosses boundaries and comes back and shows still-untapped wells of talent and ideas in Goldberg's bag of tricks.

MARSEN JULES: Yara Remastered CD $16.99
The new label Oktaf is a platform for music in the realm of ambient, neo-classical and modern jazz. Marsen Jules presents one of his most important albums to-date -- a work of warm, shimmering ambient soundscapes, originally released on the Autoplate label in 2004, now available on CD for the first time and completely remastered. The Dortmund-based musician has been pushing the boundaries between ambient and neo-classical with his releases on City Centre Offices as well as with his contributions to the renowned Pop Ambient series on Kompakt for quite some time now. His music casts a delicate warmth that combines both digital and analog elements to create a sound that has inspired many artists over the years. With a completely reworked and remastered version, Marsen Jules fulfills his wish to release this gem from the back-catalog of the internet-label Thinner so that it will get the attention it deserves. On his follow-up to 2003's Lazy Sunday Funerals, Marsen Jules continues to work on his vision of blending otherworldly strings with fragile ambient sounds. The resulting compositions are reminiscent of the deep, atmospheric sounds of the Pop Ambient compilations, but in their minimalistic approach also pay respect to experimental composers such as Steve Reich and Eric Satie. The source material for Yara was the recording of a band from the circle of Marsen Jules' friends. After listening to it repeatedly, the background noises of the concert that were recorded accidently became more and more important for him: the tuning of an instrument, the opening of a beer can, the laughter of someone from the audience -- emotional moments that transcend the music itself and capture the very atmosphere of the concert. These acoustic fragments were afterwards digitally re-edited in the sense of musique concrète and then put together again to create a texture of elegant ambient sounds. The result is a highly personal sonic web of modulated loops and permanent tempo variations that have influenced many musicians in their creative output. The re-mastered version now impresses with an even richer, more complex sound than the original. In addition, U.S. designer Noah McDonald provided the cover artwork. Includes two bonus tracks not included on the original release. Limited to 500 copies only.

HASSLE HOUND: Born In A Night CD $17.99
This is the second album by Glasgow's Hassle Hound -- the follow-up to 2006's critically-acclaimed Limelight Cordial (STAUB 065CD/LP). Apparently residing somewhere between Sesame Street and Sunset Boulevard, in a building that's part Heartbreak Hotel and part Pee Wee's Playhouse, Hassle Hound proffer dayglo audio animations and melancholic, cinematic avant-noir. Born In A Night sees them continue their effervescent assault on bland Ikealectronica and insipid samplers. On this record, Hassle Hound integrate kindergarten kitsch with moodier psychedelicate moments, documenting a celestial domesticity with eccentric but compelling instrumentation and intriguing ideas. Their irreverent and eclectic approach results in a collection of complex, yet cohesive songs, each with their own idiosyncratic sonic identity. Their curious blend of sampled sounds, field recordings, electronic noises and live instruments creates a simultaneously sophisticated and naive seduction where angelic melodies tussle with radiophonic dexterity, digital caresses, analog whispers and jolly anarchy. If Sun Ra and Joe Meek had been Hanna-Barbera cartoon characters, this could well have been the soundtrack. Born in a night, it will deliver for a lifetime. The band is comprised of three core members: Tony Swain, Mark Vernon and Ela Orleans.

ANDERSON, LEONA: Music To Suffer By Remastered CD $16.99
A very rare cult recording from 1958, and possibly the greatest worst album of all time. Beautifully remastered for the very first time, so now it sounds even worse. After a vague career on the silver screen, Leona Anderson hit the recording studio in 1958. She only went once. The results are legendary. In fact, no other album has reached such heights of brilliance and badness at the same time. The album is relentless, from "Indian Love Call" to "Carmen," the yodelling, crooning and aural torture just gets more incredible, more entertaining and more unforgettable as the album runs on. Add to the mix such classic and unique numbers as "Rats In My Room" and "Limburger Lover" (the greatest song about cheese ever written and performed), and we find that the album moves effortlessly from being just another incredibly strange album to simply the greatest, most consistently entertaining recording of all time. Anderson's vocal timing is sublime, the orchestra is strong, and the album brims with humor, darkness and more than a touch of utter madness. One listen to Music To Suffer By, and you will not suffer. Instead, you will laugh and revel in the fact that you will not be able to stop singing it or playing it for the rest of your life, whether you like it or not. CD is housed in a beautiful, period color sleeve, and includes a 4-page booklet with original photos and sleevenotes.

VA: Boddie Acetate Box 3x7" BOX $18.99
"Three 45's with original Boddie acetate artwork plus extensive notes, housed in a 7" shipping box, and sealed with faximile Boddie paper shipping tape. From 1965 until 1987, husband and wife Thomas and Louise Boddie provided the greater Cleveland, Ohio, area with custom recording and affordable record manufacturing. The Boddie Recording Company operated out of the African-American couple's house on the east side of Cleveland, complete with a fullservice, hand-wired analog recording studio and a busy pressing plant steaming around the clock in a converted dairy barn at the back of the estate. A kaleidoscope of northern Ohio musical acts used the Boddie services in one way or another, booking time in the tracking room, cutting reference acetates, or pressing a couple hundred 45s for local distribution. Selecting from the reliable parade of musicians crossing paths with his enterprise, Thomas found time to curate his own stable of talent through his Soul Kitchen, Luau, Caribi, Plaid, and Bounty labels. But by and large, Boddie Recording Company was not a creative endeavor for Thomas or Louise. Instead, it made the Boddies an honest living by providing teenage bands and aspiring gospel ensembles an inexpensive shot at having their own creations laid to wax. Of these hundreds of groups, we've selected three that were found in unmarked boxes, never picked up, certainly never released. The labels are a facsimile of the Boddie's custom acetate sticker, pressed on 48 gram vinyl, housed in a tape box, and sealed with Boddie Recording kraft tape."

BROWN, JAMES: King Heroin 7" $8.49
"'King Heroin' is one of James Brown's finest moments, at the time an urgently needed reality check on the growing heroin crisis swallowing much of inner city America, and appreciated today as one of the most breathtaking pieces of haunted funk and conscious soul ever released. Reissued here in all its glory, and featuring the impossible-to-find instrumental reprise on the B-side, 'King Heroin' once again hits the streets to combat the uncertainty of post-civil rights era urban malaise. Much more than a 'message' record, more than a few of which James Brown and company put out with preachy fervor, 'King Heroin' holds no bars in its blunt reviews of addiction and its painful fallout, all from a man who himself struggled with the beast inside for decades. Beyond the sweet irony remains one of the most disturbing and starkly beautiful down-tempo soul records ever, a perfect encapsulation of a lost era only dreamt of in weak blaxploitation Technicolor vision today. An essential piece of eternal soul history." Housed in a repro King Records sleeve.

BRILLANS, NARKI: Narki Goes Into Orbo' LP $29.99
"A mysterious 1981 cassette masterpiece from Narki Brillans from the It's War Boys catalogue available now on LP. Remastered from the original tapes by Narki himself! Track listing: 'Worship Worship USA'; 'Omnicode'; 'Atom making a bomb'; 'Fascist tea party'; 'Dave got a job in the garage'; 'Postcard from Space'; Saw a great disc land'; 'I've got US dollars'. There are more than half a million pieces of space junk floating above the earth, and of all of them, there's only one or two that I'd rescue for the benefit of the human race. You know, when you think of all those dreadful Time Capsules and other vainglorious and redundant trivia - if you are someone of a discerning mind, one eye on the eternal fastnesses of our mighty Galaxy (only a suburb really, which is surely what makes David Bowie's Space Oddity so very effecting for those of us born in the petit bourgeois utopia of the post-war world), the other on the profoundly mysterious internal life of the individual, the essentially irrelevant nonentity which our so-called culture has puffed up and reshaped with the vision of an expert sculptor into the soi-disant Self -- well then, if you are of such a mind, well then I say it's my firmly held belief (one which I will carry to my grave, which I hope may be out there in Space, with Bowie and Meek's masterpieces alternating with a selection of out takes from the television series Lost In Space starring the immortal Jonathan Harris -- 'Spare me the compliments, Major!') that the only object really worth a candle among the essentially infinite objects floating in the upper atmosphere is that recording made by Narki Brillans which, if everyone in the chain does what they said they'll do and if my predictions for our future are correct, the reader of this transcript will soon hold in their hands. Four color sleeve with original primitive-futuristic-cosmic collages by Studio Shitless. Printed inner sleeve featuring an essay by Ed Baxter and a 1982 low-orbit interview by Narki Brillans from Teen Arts magazine. Label based on a original idea by Clive Graham. Edition limited to 265 private copies." On red-colored vinyl.

SUN RA & HIS OMNIVERSE JET-SET ARKESTRA: Beyond The Purple Star Zone/Oblique Parallax CD $19.99
"Two related classic Saturn LP reissues on a single CD, both recorded at the Detroit Jazz Centre in 1980 and 1981 respectively. They share an excellent sound quality and great playing -- there's a classic version of 'Rocket No.9' and plenty of otherworldly Moog and electronic keyboards -- it's up there with Ra's best on record. 'Rocket' excepted, all the pieces are original to these LPs and don't appear elsewhere, though the first track of Purple Star Zone is heard again at the end, with another name (exactly as it was on the 2 LPs), so it was clearly much liked by the boss. These were 10-14 piece bands, featuring the regulars, including June Tyson, and some visiting guests. The first LP features prominent electric guitar (not identified in the personnel list on the CD, but every listing I've seen for these LPs is different; this one should be fairly accurate in general, since the promoter helped to get the CD together). A fine release, touched with greatness and with a good sound. Comes in the usual elaborate gatefold digipack, covers for which the Artyard label is justly praised."

Quinn, Donovan & The13th Month - lp Your Wicked Man on Soft Abuse $13.99
LIMITED TO 500. Donovan Quinn is anything but direct. With an enigmatic deadpan he delivers lyrics written in a dense & fragmentary style; the influence of writers such as Malcolm Lowry & Thomas Pynchon figures just as heavily on his craft as ROBYN HITCHCOCK, PAVEMENT, ROBERT FORSTER & SKIP SPENCE. "Your Wicked Man" is the second album from his primary band, Donovan Quinn & the 13th Month, created in collaboration with JASON QUEVER (PAPERCUTS) as producer and multi- instrumentalist. In much the same way his presence molded CASS MCCOMBS' early efforts, Quever's contributions serve Quinn?s narratives with arrangements that range from ornamental to rollicking to bare, pushing Quinn's embrace of rustic, poetic popcraft to the fore. The band's distinct take on art-pop forms re-imagines early efforts from MEKONS, NIKKI SUDDEN & JOHN CALE as filtered through Californian folk-rock.

Car Commercials 7" Prisoner of Type on Soft Abuse $6.99
LIMITED EDITION OF 300! Car Commercials explore the personal/loner side of DIY with their singular take on no-chord strum & mumble rock n' roll alienation. DAVE SUTTON (CURRENT AMNESIA) & DANIEL DIMAGGIO (HOME BLITZ) have created another soundtrack of suburban boredom & terminal paranoia; the stifling, mundane source of this music (geographically & psychologically speaking) is mirrored & regurgitated in these tunes. Where once they tread a formless, lurching path, Car Commercials now tromp along with more cohesive abandon. Moments of spontaneity & pure attitude are delivered in restrained spurts & jabs, & their chops seem better, too, extending the duo's unsettling moves into (slightly) less rudimentary corners. Its a savory listen. Hand printed b&w sleeves by ZAK SALLY (LOW) in Minneapolis. Comes with download code for the digitally inclined.

Mac Blackout 7" Don't Let Your Live Die on Sacred Bones $5.99
b/w “Sometimes" New solo single from ex-FUNCTIONAL BLACKOUTS & current DAILY VOID man MAC BLACKOUT that sounds as if it were made in either 1980 or 2980. A-side is a driving synth-driven tune that almost goes pop - albeit in a very Alexander Robotnik kind of way - and might as well have been recorded on an NES. B-side is a mid-tempo dirge that goes beyond obvious comparisons to Helios Creed/Damon Edge & recalls labelmate Gary War and Mac's Daily Void.

Welcome Home/Diggin' The V/A $17.99

Songs by: WOODS, RUN DMT, WHITE FENCE, FRESH & ONLYS, MANTLES, SKYGREEN LEOPARDS, ALEX BLEEKER, MOON DUO, CITY CENTER, CAUSE CO-MOTION, ART MUSEUMS, NODZZZ, DUCKTAILS. CONAN: Horseback Battle Hammer CD $18.99
"Conan are a caveman battle doom trio from the grim North of England. They summon the heavy riff from the ungodly land and crush the skull of the unbeliever with their low end doom assault. Waves of sludge and galloping crust passages overwhelm the unwary. Horseback Battle Hammer is comprised of four long and crushing tracks recorded in mid November 2009 at Wales' mighty Foel Studio (Hawkwind, Electric Wizard, Blue Cheer, Godflesh, Amon Duul). The sound is monolithic, and clearly the band made the very best use of this legendary studio to get remarkable results from their custom made gear for a truly crushing debut release. Combining excellent production values, deadly riffs and a unique vocal style, Horseback Battle Hammer stays with the listener like a fresh wound. With artwork by Tony Roberts (Electric Wizard, Unearthly Trance, Cathedral), Conan have set in stone the majesty of their arrival."

MARCLAY, CHRISTIAN: Graffiti Composition CD $16.99
Dog W/A Bone, the recording label established by the Paula Cooper Gallery, is pleased to announce the CD release of Graffiti Composition by American visual artist and composer Christian Marclay. In 1996, Marclay plastered more than 5,000 posters of blank sheet music in public places throughout Berlin during a month-long sound festival. The posters functioned as an open invitation to the public to scribble musical notes, or any other type of graffiti. Marclay photographed the graffitied sheets, selected 150 from the group, and compiled them into a portfolio intended to be interpreted and performed by musicians. Graffiti Composition is the live recording of a one-time performance at the Museum of Modern Art, New York in 2006. Led by Elliott Sharp, it features five world-renowned guitar players: Melvin Gibbs, Mary Halvorson, Lee Ranaldo, Vernon Reid, and Elliot Sharp. The release of Graffiti Composition coincides with the opening of Christian Marclay: Festival at the Whitney Museum of Art, a groundbreaking exhibition highlighting the interplay between the visible, audible and performance that is the hallmark of Marclay's work. The show will focus on the artist's graphic scores: art works with visual cues to be interpreted by musicians in performance. The exhibition will feature select musicians' daily live performances of Marclay's scores and runs from July 1st through September 26th, 2010.

Vinyl version comes with bonus download remixes."

MADLIB: Madlib Medicine Show No. 7 - High Jazz CD $17.99
"Madlib follows Brain Wreck Show with the seventh installment in his Madlib Medicine Show, a jazz album with his Yesterday's New Quintet called High Jazz. Madlib's been busy this year. And while his recorded output always spans the gamut, he often returns to recurrent themes, spread across the genres that serve as home base -- or bases, as it were. Jazz is one such base. This year, he's already released two albums from 'spin-off bands' that he introduced on the 2007 Yesterday's New Quintet Yesterday's Universe album. And, with High Jazz, Madlib begins anew, offering familiar jazz sounds from a series of 'new' groups from his ever-augmenting cosmos. Call it 'Yesterday's Galaxy.' High Jazz, the name itself a tribute to the landmark jazz-fusion album released by Stanton Davis's Ghetto Mysticism in 1976, shows a marked development in Madlib's craft. Every element of jazz is there. Is that tune modal-funk? Was that song psych-fusion? Was that a bossa-tinged run or another kind of Latin-affair? Where did that sitar come from? Madlib's Yesterday's excursions are never easy to categorize and that's the point -- while experiencing chops like these, the desire to rigidly define takes a backseat to aural pleasure. The Madlib Medicine Show series is a combination of Madlib's new hip-hop productions, remixes, beat tapes, and jazz, as well as mixtapes of funk, soul, Brazilian, psych, jazz and other undefined forms of music from the Beat Konducta's 4-ton stack of vinyl."

HURLEY, MICHAEL: Blue Hills LP $14.99
"New recordings by Michael. On this LP we find Hurley stretching out on six longer than usual compositions that are heartbreaking & beautiful as anything he's ever done. Side one features Hurley on a creaky pump organ & a hammond organ. Side two starts out with two newer compositions - just Michael on guitar & vocals. The record ends with a stunning version of 'Tea Song' (which Michael originally wrote & recorded way back in 1963). We rarely resort to hyperbole on these descriptions, but we have to say that this LP is one of the more moving things we've ever heard. A sustained feeling of loss & need for redemption haunts this record. It ain't easy listening, but then what worth a damn is?"

MIRAH: Don't/The Tears That Fall 7" $6.99
"Mirah (K Records) has gratiously blessed the Mississippi label with a beautiful 45. This piece of wax contains two original Mirah songs, celebrating the classic girl group era of the '60s. Loosely following this format, and with the accompaniment of some individualistic musicians, something unique was born. Backing musicians from Evolutionary Jass Band, Pink Widower and Golden Bears. Recorded at The Pool Recording Studio in Portland, OR with Alex Yusimov. Co-produced by Tara Jane Oneil and Christopher Doulgeris (Hooliganship, Mirah). Old-style full color tip-on sleeve."

ORCHESTRE REGIONAL DE MOPTI: Les Meilleurs Souvenirs De La 1ere Biennale Artistique.. LP $14.99
..Et Culturelle De La Jeunesse. "Recorded in 1970 as part of the First Biennale of Arts and Culture for the Young in Mali. The Regional Orchestra of Mopti was a state funded orchestra that participated in country wide music festivals and competitions. A hypnotic band featuring electric guitars & a large horn section. This is the first in a series of six Mali music LPs we will be reissuing this summer from Sterns. A serene and droning record that is both sorrowful & celebratory."

JORGE AND ALMAZ, SEU: Seu Jorge And Almaz CD $17.99
"Listening to this remarkable album for the first time you'll surely be struck first by the deep, soul-piercing voice of that great Brazilian singer, Seu Jorge. Yes: he's a singer first and foremost. Many may know him as an actor for his screen-stealing performances in the likes of Wes Anderson's The Life Aquatic and Fernando Meirelles' City Of God but Seu has known since he was a child that we was destined to sing. He's a Brazilian singer who speaks the truth through samba, to paraphrase a well-known Seu Jorge quote. But this project is about a band: Almaz. Drummer Pupillo and guitarist Lucio Maia from the stalwart Nação Zumbi; bassist and composer Antonio Pinto from the soundstages of movies starring Seu Jorge. They came together naturally to record a song for a Walter Salles film; they enjoyed the experience so much that they recorded an entire album of music that inspired them. Songs famous within the Brazilian diaspora (Tim Maia, Jorge Ben) mesh with classic American (Roy Ayers, Michael Jackson) and European (Kraftwerk, Cane and Abel) soul songs begging for a bit of psychedelic samba. They enlisted producer and fellow Brazileiro Mario C. (Beastie Boys, Jack Johnson) to put the finishing touches on the project. Their album is both warm and dark; psychedelic and yet grounded, uplifting but at times somber. To listen to it is to join them in the studio, where the only bandleader is the music and the only agenda is to follow your heart."

JORGE AND ALMAZ, SEU: Seu Jorge And Almaz 2LP $19.99
Gatefold 2LP version.

OS MUTANTES: Tecnicolor LP $17.99

Secret Cities Pink Graffiti cd on Western Vinyl $14.99
By drawing on fractured psych, girl groups & minimalist composers, they have conjured a kaleidoscopic, strangely moving whole out of disparate pieces. Distorted loops, drones, & thundering toms underpin distant voices. Pianos are pounded. Grainy acoustic guitars come through like AM transmissions received deep underground.

FABULOUS DIAMONDS: Fabulous Diamonds II CD $16.99
This is the second album by Melbourne duo Fabulous Diamonds. This odd duo makes overtly hypnotic music, full of lulling, sensual repetition, but there's also an edge of irritation, an undercurrent of friction that cuts through the drone and propels the songs forward. Fabulous Diamonds II begins with drummer/vocalist Nisa Venerosa yelling at keyboardist Jarrod Zlatic, as he counts in the first track, but they still start together in perfect unison. It's this combination of tension and intuitive understanding that makes Fabulous Diamonds so special. They have been playing and arguing together for more than five years now, and their musical bond has grown deeper and more expansive since their 2008 self-titled debut. That album made it into revered UK mag The Wire's top albums of the year, and got glowing reviews from the likes of Pitchfork and The Fader. But this new record is still a remarkable development. Of its five untitled tracks, two extend well past the ten-minute mark, sustaining a kind of grumpy intensity that never lags. The album was recorded with budding producer Mikey Young of Eddy Current Suppression Ring, and was mastered by Qua's Cornel Wilczek. Like their first album, it will be released on vinyl by venerable U.S. label Siltbreeze. Fabulous Diamonds toured the U.S. in 2008 with Times New Viking and Psychedelic Horseshit, playing 26 dates in one month. In 2009, they were invited to perform at Belgium's Kraak Festival alongside Wavves, Kurt Vile and others. They also played in the UK, Holland, France, Switzerland, Portugal and Sweden on their 2009 European tour. In Australia, the band have played with Deerhunter, Yeasayer, Akron Family, Beach House, and many more.

NURSE WITH WOUND: Huffin' Rag Blues 2LP $24.99
Nurse With Wound and Dirter Promotions presents 3 sides of different mixes to 2008's Huffin' Rag Blues CD, 1 side with a great Steven Stapleton etching in dirty, dark, opaque blue vinyl. Another spectacular torrent of Dadaist experimental exotica from Steven Stapleton and Andrew Liles, with a suitably scattershot list of contributors and collaborators, including repeat offender Colin Potter (credited with "testicular randomization") and a host of "proper" musicians and vocalists prepared to undergo the NWW treatment. As with the companion release to this album, The Bacteria Magnet (DPROM 066PIC), Nurse With Wound are currently set on a creative trajectory that dismantles the auditory iconography of the '50s, marauding through eerie re-renderings of jazz club instrumentals, electroacoustic traffic sounds and skewed torch songs. As NWW albums go, this is probably among the more outwardly approachable releases, but in fact, it's the very proximity to the language of pop music that makes Huffin' Rag Blues all the more subversive. Housed in a deluxe full-color gatefold sleeve with a glossy insert with twisted Babs Santini artwork.

ADKINS, HASIL: White Light/White Meat LP $16.99
Subtitled: Authentic West Virginia One Man Band Home Recordings 1958-1965. "Celebrate Hasil's 25 years as a Norton Records artist with fourteen 1958-65 hunchers and weepers recorded in Hasil's Boone County, West Virginia shack! Insane hard board jacket."

SOUNDCARRIERS, THE: Celeste 2LP $21.99
Limited edition gatefold heavyweight double vinyl version. Includes a free download coupon.

PANSONIC/HAINO KEIJI: Synergy Between Mercy And Self-Annihilation Overturned 2LP $33.99
Limited LP-only release. Blast First Petite presents a studio collaboration between Finnish electronic technicians Pansonic (Mika Vainio and Ilpo Väisänen) and Japanese guitar shaman, Haino Keiji. Recorded only days after their performance together in Berlin that resulted in the powerful and haunting live album Shall I Download A Black Hole And Offer It To You (PTYT 014CD). Synergy Between Mercy And Self-Annihilation Overturned is a more controlled, even tense, affair, where the participants circle each other like gladiators at the Colosseum. No more needs to be said that isn't already alluded to with the fabulous, mysterious track-titles. Housed in a lavish gatefold sleeve with spot-varnished lettering and glossy inner sleeves. Deluxe packaging designed by Stephen O'Malley (Khanate, Sunn O)))).

VA: Saigon Rock & Soul: Vietnamese Classic Tracks 1968-1974 2LP $29.99
The long-awaited foray into the Vietnamese rock, pop and soul sound of the late 1960s and early 1970s is finally here. Saigon Rock & Soul delivers the goods international retro collectors have been searching for in vain for many years -- and it delivers beyond belief. Every song is a mini-masterpiece, be it heavy acid-rock psychedelia, horn- and guitar-drenched funk grooves, or gripping soul ballads reflective of life during wartime. The tracks that form this collection cut a window into a rich musical Vietnamese music scene that has long been obscured, and for the most part, forgotten. As the scope of electrified Vietnamese music from the 1960s and 1970s begins to be revealed, it becomes evident that this was among the heaviest and most eclectic musical scenes of Southeast Asia at the time. These songs tell of war, love and what war does to love. All of them were recorded in makeshift studios and even U.S. army facilities while the Vietnam War raged -- and were issued by a handful of Saigon record companies on vinyl 45s and reel or cassette tapes. Westernized forms of music in Vietnam had appeared during the latter 19th century, and especially during the early 20th century, under the influence of the French colonizers. Tan Nhac (trans. "modern music") always incorporated both domestic and international sounds, and continued to develop alongside Western musical trends. During the 1960s and 1970s, pulp ballads were being recorded by leading crooners of the time who alternated between modern and traditional forms of regional music. When the electric guitar hit the streets of Saigon, Vietnamese renditions of contemporary instrumental trends such as surf-rock, beat and twist soon emerged, followed by some pretty deep soul sounds inspired by Motown radio hits as well as funk grooves brought on by James Brown and his contemporaries. By the mid-1960s, Vietnam had been ravaged by war for years. American G.I.s had become a standard fixture in Saigon, as did many of the cultural artifacts they brought with them. This certainly included the music. The sounds of rock and roll dominated the radio waves, and Saigon nightclubs were teeming with new sounds. Musically, The Shadows and The Ventures soon gave way to The Beatles and The Rolling Stones as an enthusiastic set of young Vietnamese rockers signed on to the lifestyle, always eager to hear the latest musical trends the G.I.s would bring in on LP or tape. This era saw the birth of a vibrant rock scene, yet rock music and anything that came close was commonly referred to as "soul" in the Vietnamese genre-listings. Like many cultures in Asia, Vietnamese music is recorded, marketed, listened to and disposed of in a relatively quick manner. This level of advanced ephemera ensures a degree of difficulty when trying to unearth and discover cultural histories. Literally, most of the music heard here has been brought back from the dead. Artists featured include some of Vietnam's most popular at the time: Elvis Phuong, Hung Cuong, Mai Lei Huyen, Le Thu, Thai Thanh, Giao Linh, Mai Lei Huyen and the CBC Band. This limited edition 2LP vinyl release features 70 minutes of classic original recordings compiled by Mark Gergis housed in a beautiful full-color gatefold jacket with extensive liner notes.

ON (REWORKED BY FENNESZ): Something That Has Form And Something That Does Not LP $18.99
LP version, limited to 500 copies. This is the third album from French composer/producer Sylvain Chauveau and Chicago-based percussionist Steven Hess (Haptic, Pan American) under their On moniker, continuing their excavation of abstracted experimental sounds. As with the previous records, improvisations were recorded in a studio in Chicago and then handed to a guest musician to rework in whichever way they saw fit. This time around, the guest musician is none other than experimental pioneer Christian Fennesz. Christian's association with the band goes way back -- he performed with them in 2004 as a trio, so it seemed almost inevitable that a collaboration would emerge at some point, but this treatment truly takes the notion of collaboration to another place entirely. Unlike Your Naked Ghost Comes Back At Night (TYPE 050CD/LP) (which was handled by dark-ambient master Deathprod), Fennesz has treated the source sounds with a distinct lightness, allowing them to creak and breathe. Occasionally, you can hear the room itself ticking in the foreground -- hands on drumsticks and feet on pedals. The sounds become the backbone of the intense, slow-building dronescapes that Fennesz pulls from the original recordings. We are treated to piercing noise as the album opens with a choir of feedback, but the cacophony gradually disperses to allow pulsing harmony and Steven Hess' propulsive, metronomic drumming. When we close on the blissful near 20-minute "The Sound Of White," echoes of Fennesz's best work drifts through the crackle and pulse of Chauveau's prepared guitar and Hess' distant percussion. These hypnotic patterns slowly rise and fall, giving the listener time to truly hear each subtle shift. This is not an exercise in easy listening; rather, here is an album that demands close attention, and one where the beauty truly is in the details.

PALMER, BRUCE: The Cycle Is Complete LP $16.99
After leaving the Buffalo Springfield because of a drug bust, bassist Bruce Palmer released this 1970 solo album for Verve Forecast. Consisting of only four tracks, The Cycle Is Complete seamlessly explores psych, folk and jazz territories to cultivate a sound that now seems decades ahead of its time. Opening track "Alpha - Omega - Apocalypse" features vocals by Rick Matthews (later known as psychedelic soul star Rick James). An exploratory cult classic.

LUNCH, LYDIA: Queen Of Siam CD $15.99
"Queen of Siam, Lydia Lunch's solo debut, was originally recorded in 1980. Featuring the noted talents of guitarist Robert Quine (Lou Reed, the Voidoids), multi-instrumentalist Pat Irwin (B-52's, Eight Eyed Spy), and the big band sound orchestra of Billy VerPlack (of Flintstones theme fame), the work proved to be a slap in the face to those critics awaiting a new Teenage Jesus-type of album from Lunch. Dirty, sophisticated, literary and raw, the album is today seen as the jewel in the crown of the no wave underground movement. Lunch created a sensual and hard-hitting musical landscape that startled even the most hardened of critics. After being out of print for years, Lunch's masterpiece returns with the original LP cover 'breasts of nails' pic for the first time on CD. Enhanced features on the disc include a live video performance of 'Knives in the Drain,' recorded live in London in 2004. Also included is a rare video of 'Gloomy Sunday' directed by Linda Di Franco, filmed in 1980."

LES RALLIZES DENUDES: Blind Baby Has It's Mothers Eyes CD $17.99
Limited edition of 1,000 numbered copies only, housed in a unique LP-replica card wallet.

LES RALLIZES DENUDES: Heavier Than A Death In The Family CD $17.99
Phoenix Records releases the oft-bootlegged Heavier Than A Death In The Family by legendary Japanese rock/psychedelic noise band Les Rallizes Denudés. This "album" is in fact, a blistering assemblage of live performances (all recorded in 1977, except for "People Can Choose," which was recorded in 1973) which sits at an esteemed #3 position on Julian Cope's Japrocksampler top 50 list. Reverb so heavy, it will split your frontal lobe in two. Limited edition of 1,000 numbered copies only, housed in a unique LP-replica card wallet.

VA: Local Customs: Lone Star Lowlands CD (NUMERO 034CD) $18.99
"The second in Numero's series of peeks into the world of regional studios hones in on Mickey Rouse's Lowland operation out of Beaumont, Texas. Long after the Bopper's plane crashed and the Winter brothers (Johnny and Edgar) and Janis Joplin split, Texas' Golden Triangle was home to a vibrant scene of musicians, songwriters, and entrepreneurs just trying to make it in Houston, let alone the world. From the ashes of a vibrant garage and stage band scene, the Lowland studio and its clientele were formed. Holed up in a rundown strip mall, groups like Mourning Sun, Insight Out, Sage, Sassy, Mother Lion, Hope, Circus, and Boot Hill tracked out hundreds of demos, most of which were put on the shelf and left to bake in the South East Texas heat. Until now. Over the last two years, Numero has painstakingly gone through every tape in the studio's archives, selecting the best of the best for this peerless compilation. The songs themselves run the gamut; southern boogie rock, CSNY clones, British blues thunder, garage-psych hangovers, Morricone-esque supper club instrumentals, yacht rock, and what can only be described as Bobby McPherin fronting the Velvet Underground, are threaded together in the way only a tightly-knit scene can be. Forget bringing these treasures back to life, Numero's giving them the life they never had." Includes a 36-page booklet with extensive notes and rare photos, and a Lowland studio family tree.

LYNCH, JULIAN: Mare LP $18.99
"Second full-length album by Julian Lynch. Recorded in Madison, Wisconsin and Ridgewood, New Jersey in 2009 and the beginning of 2010. Download coupon included." "An earthy, eclectic record that manages to be challenging, but also remarkably patient, it's the sound of the formerly Ridgewood, NJ-based songwriter quietly coming into his own....a major creative step forward for Lynch, whose absorbing ambient pop sounds prove how refreshing this kind of subtlety can be." -- Pitchfork (8.5)

COMMON EIDER, KING EIDER: Worn LP $17.99
"Now expanded to a four piece, Common Eider, King Eider have crafted yet another blast of high-end wind chill that whips through the empty spaces in your skull. More stories of flora and fauna that hang beautifully in dynamic rooms of piano, strings, voices; and stargazing guitar explosions born of layer after layer of feedback. This ghost world is all gray and black, with a high condensation of loss penetrating throughout. Moonlight occasionally lights the path, but for the most part, prepare to be lost in the woods. Liz Harris (Grouper) and Tom Carter (Charalambides) on the tracks 'Ennui' and 'Earth Liver' add to the overall sense of dread." Includes poster.

BASINKSKI, WILLIAM Variations For Piano And Tape 2062 US CD $14.99

"Comprised of one 44 minute track, Variation #9 'Pantelleria,' this archival release is one of my all-time favorites of the piano and tape variations from the early eighties. Using a lilting piano melody on a small loop, the requisite magic happened in the recording process when this particular loop would randomly slip along the play head revealing an extraordinary counterpoint (in reverse) on the other side of the tape. To me, this piece evokes a lazy Arcandian summer idyll, and will always remind me of an idyllic artist's residency in 2003 on the beautiful Italian island of Pantelleria." -William Basinski, June 2006
BASINSKI, WILLIAM The River Raster GERMAN 2xCD $17.99

The River is the culmination of William Basinski's shortwavemusic experiments. It was recorded in real time in 1983 using tape loops and shortwave radio static. The loops were all culled from the airwaves, short bits of string melody taken from the Muzak radiostation, slowed down and mixed live to cassette from two 50's Norelco reel-to-reel decks with a random accompaniment of shifting shortwave radio static.
BASINSKI, WILLIAM Garden Of Brokenness 2062 US CD $14.99

A new composition featuring a recently discovered tape loop melody from the earliest piano and tape experiments, c. 1979. 'The main loop in this piece is one of the original piano and tape experiments from my early days as a composer. A few of the derivative piano variations have been released: 'A Red Score in Tile,' 'Chrome Primitive,' some of the 'Melancholia' pieces. Some are still to come in the archival series. This theme, a melody made up of one of the most common chord changes in western music, to me, is one that evokes the Japanese concept of 'mono no aware' which translates roughly to 'the sadness of things
BASINSKI, WILLIAM Melancholia 2062 US CD $14.99

This music is so beautifully delicate and sad in its auto-reflective moods, it stands right there with everything ranging from the usual suspects in the 'ambient' field, to a distorted damp ghost of Claude Debussy or Maurice Ravel put into a time machine.
